Position Description:

The Leonia Public Library Board of Trustees seeks an innovative and dynamic leader to fulfill the role of Director of the Leonia Public Library. Leonia is a vibrant community with a strong dedication to education, art, and technology. The Leonia Public Library has a strong focus on the library as the center of the community, partnerships and collaborations with community organizations, STEM technologies and education, and dynamic and diverse programming for all members of the community. Leonia is also a diverse community, with a very large Korean population, with services and programming to serve all community members. The Board of Trustees is seeking a dynamic leader to fill the shoes of our outgoing DIrector and continue the vibrant and forward-thinking organization that exists today.

  • Leadership with an emphasis on team building and creating a friendly, creative and collaborative work environment

 

Job Requirements:

  • Prepare and monitor annual budget and capital budgets in coordination with library Board of Trustees
  • Write and submit monthly board reports, annual State Report, etc.
  • Develop and maintain library policies, procedures and personnel manual in coordination with Board of Trustees
  • Oversee daily operations of the library, staff and personnel, physical plant management, collections and programs, advertisement and outreach, and community partnerships
  • Select, train and supervise staff and volunteers in collaboration with department heads
  • Represent library at professional organizations, within community and with local government
  • Promote library services, inform community and stakeholders of library services and organize outreach and advertising
  • Collection development duties in collaboration with other library staff
  • Adult programming planning in coordination with other library staff
  • Oversee website with staff member assistance
  • Review and recommend new services, digital content platforms, and new library trends
  • Develop staff skills and plan professional development

 

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Library/Information Science from an ALA accredited school
  • Three (3) years minimum experience in a supervisory or administrative capacity in a public library
  • New Jersey State Professional Librarian Certificate

 

Position Details:

  • Compensation is commensurate with experience.
  • This position meets the New Jersey Library Association recommended minimum.
  • Employment contingent upon successful completion of a background check/fingerprinting at the library’s expense.
  • Position includes enrollment in NJ PERS pension system, health and dental benefits, and generous vacation, sick and personal time.
