Updated March 6th and 7th Nor'easter Weather and Emergency Information

Due to weather conditions, for Thursday, March 8th, please be advised that:

Borough Hall offices are on a delayed opening, offices will be fully open at noon.

Leonia Public Schools are on a two hour delayed opening (as of 7pm on Wednesday).

The snow ordinance for on-street parking is still in effect.

Trash pickup if canceled.

Weather

From Bergen County: The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning from 10 PM tonight until 4 AM Thursday morning - please read the following email with important information.

Snow will move into the area overnight tonight and continue through Wednesday night. It will start off slow and possibly mix with rain. Heaviest snow starts late Wednesday morning and continues through Wednesday evening. Total snow accumulation is expected to be 6 - 10 inches with locally higher amounts of 10 - 14 inches possible. Snowfall rates of 1 – 2” inches per hour are possible. White out conditions are possible for Wednesday afternoon/evening.

Winds will be 15-20 MPH with gusts up to 30 MPH. This may cause blowing and drifting snow.

Parking

The "No Parking When Road is Snow Covered" ordinance will be in effect as soon as the snow is of a sufficient quantity requiring the DPW to commence plowing operations. If you live on a street covered by the ordinance, please remove your vehicle(s) prior to the arrival of the snow. If you do not have a driveway, you may use the municipal lots on Elm Place, Beechwood Place or the Public Library.

Traveling

Due to the weather conditions, we recommend staying off the road unless absolutely necessary to allow emergency and public works vehicles to safely operate.

Office Closings

As of 4:30pm on Tuesday 3/6, Borough Hall offices will be closed on 3/7, as will Leonia Public Schools and Bergen County offices.

Other information

If you know of any elderly residents in town, please check on them to ensure they are okay. If you are unable to make contact with them and would like the Borough to do a welfare check, please contact Leonia Police Department non-emergency number: (201) 944-0800. Please contact the same number if you are an essential personnel (hospital staff) but need assistance traveling.
