Oktoberfest is sponsored annually by Rotary of the Palisades (representing Leonia, Edgewater and Palisades Park) to fund the school's SnackPack program for food insecure children. Many Leonians are involved or volunteer at Oktoberfest--a wonderful Leonia community event that drew over 550 attendees this year. The attached photos will attest to the energy and good time had by all ages.
The SnackPack program run in conjunction with The Center for Food Action provides elementary and middle school children who qualify with nutritious weekend food packs so they don't go hungry. The updated federal Bureau of the Census for Leonia shows 10.9% of Leonians currently live at or under the federal poverty level. That's nearly 11 out of 100 Leonians who likely need help when it comes to the basics including food support. Oktoberfest is fun for a good cause. Rotary of the Palisades annually hosts Oktoberest at Leonia's American Legion Post #1 to not only bring the community together for some fun but to support the much needed school's SnackPack program at the same time.
