LHS 1960s Alum Reunion a Success!

The first annual reunion of 1960’s LHS alumni ('60-'69) took place at the 2018 Leonia Day Festival on Sunday, May 20th. Planned by reunion organizers as a regional event, about 75 grads from the ’60’s, including former students from Leonia and Edgewater, met under a ’60’s alumni banner on the American Legion Hall grounds where Leonia Day was relocated due to a rainy forecast. Typically, the festival takes place in Wood Park. However, sunny skies prevailed for a beautiful afternoon. The class reunion weekend kicked off with an informal get-together on Saturday night at the New York Wing Factory in Fort Lee. The two-day event was free with donations accepted to cover expenses. Organizers expect local and regional attendance to grow and hope to encourage other LHS alums to plan their own decade reunions at the annual Borough festival.

Leonia Day was chosen by the reunion committee as the perfect occasion for LHS alumni to return to town.

To grow the ’60’s reunion participation, organizers are looking for graduates of each class to spread the word and forward to classmates upcoming announcements of next year’s event. Offers of help should be directed to David Barudin (, Rick Pumo (, or Linda Schwarmann-Wistermayer (
