Home MenuThe Department of Public Works is responsible for the maintenance and repair of all public works, shall plan and supervise the work of repair and maintenance of all streets and roads, carry on the work of maintenance and care of public buildings, parks, grounds and equipment, supervise the collection and disposal of garbage, ashes and waste, have general supervision of all public sewers and stormwater drains, assume general charge of all other work of repair, maintenance, minor construction and operation of Borough equipment and shall perform such services in connection therewith as shall be required or directed by the Mayor and Council.
DPW picks up garbage, trash, recyclables, yard waste and white goods. Residents should not drop off any refuse, or anything else, at the DPW, as it is closed to public access.
Only electronics should be dropped off at the the DPW at the designated container. Electronics can be dropped off Mondays through Fridays between 8:00 am and 2:00 pm. Please note that styrofoam drop off has been suspended until further notice.
Emergencies
Sanitary sewer back-ups, or fallen trees, please call the DPW during their normal working hours of 7:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Any emergency arising before 7 a.m., or after 3:30 p.m. please notify the Leonia Police Department at 201-944-0800.
Garbage/Recycling Pickup Schedule & Recycling Guide
All collectibles should be at the curb by 7 a.m. and no earlier than 5 p.m. on the preceding day, excluding “household garbage."

Household Garbage
(“Kitchen” wastes only”) garbage should be placed in the pick up location by 7 a.m. on the day of collection, which is every Tuesday and Friday for the entire Borough.
Bulk Trash
(“Household furnishings such as chairs, sofas, rugs and other misc. items”), trash is picked up curb side on alternate Mondays and Thursdays, bi-weekly. Refer to the Community Calendar or the web-site for pick up schedule.
Mixed Paper
(“Newspaper, cardboard, magazines”), are alternating Wednesdays. Brown bags are acceptable, No Plastic Bags.
Co-Mingled Containers
(“Bottles, cans, plastic containers”), are alternating Wednesdays. Placed at curb in hard receptacles – No Plastic Bags
White Goods
(“Washing machines, dryers, refrigerators, stoves, air conditioners and misc. metal items”), the DPW will schedule a pick up of these items. Call 201-592-5790; leave your name, phone number, and address where the items are to be picked up.
Yard Waste
(“Branches, brush, clippings”), pick ups are on alternating Mondays unless there is a Holiday, refer to the pick-up schedule in the Community Calendar or on the Web-site. This service is available March through November of the calendar year. No Plastic Bags
Loose Leaves
Can be raked into piles at the curb from October through December. Piles must be 10’ away from storm water drains. No Plastic Bags
Electronics
Televisions, computers, radios, etc., are to be dropped off at the container located at the DPW
Tues-Thurs from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm.
