About DPW Superintendent Villareal

Superintendent of Public Works, John Villareal, was born and raised in Leonia Borough. He is a graduate of Leonia High School and is an exempt member of the Leonia Volunteer Fire Department with 20 years of service.

Superintendent Villareal has been with the Public Works Department for 38 years and is a Certified Public Works Manager obtaining his certification from Rutgers University in 2007. John is currently attending the Certified Recycling classes with Rutgers University and is scheduled to complete the class in May 2020.

Superintendent Villareal oversees a department of 17 employees and is responsible for maintaining all Borough of Leonia buildings, parks, roadways, and other Borough properties. John is married to his wife Lynda and has two children, his son Kyle and his daughter Kayla. John and family currently reside in Dumont.

About Assistant Superintendent & General Foreman Malloy

Kevin Malloy has been employed by the Borough of Leonia for 35 years. He is a lifelong resident of Leonia who raised two daughters with his wife Kathy, also a lifelong Leonia resident. He began working at the Leonia DPW after graduating Leonia High School as a Garbage Collector and worked his way up to Loader Operator on the Road Crew and then on to his current position as General Foreman. He has also been a member of the Leonia Fire Department for 20 years.

As General Foreman, he oversees schedules of daily tasks for the road department crew. This entails town parks and property maintenance, recycling, equipment maintenance, lawn mowing, painting, snow plowing, tree maintenance, emergency calls, sewer calls, email and phone call requests from residents and more. As part of his duties, he attends the Public Works Association meetings to keep up with current information and collaborate with his peers. He keeps current by attended many in-services and classes on equipment or necessary mandated classes that are offered. He is able to step into any role at the department such as mechanic, operating & repairing equipment, snow plowing, etc. His experience at the department has made him knowledgeable about all aspects of the job. He has built rapport with the surrounding town departments and has arranged many shared service needs. Kevin has an excellent working relationship with all municipal departments.
