Firearms Application Procedures

1. Visit the following website as shown - www.njportal.com/NJSP/fars


2. Enter NJ0022900 for the ORI #. This number is specific to the Leonia Police Department.
(You will not be able to complete the FARS online application without the proper ORI#)


3. Complete the online application. If you complete the application using a smart-phone, mobile device, laptop, or desktop computer, you will need to be able to print the IDENTIGO FINGERPRINT FORM.


4. When completing the application, you will need to supply email addresses of two reputable references. A family member can be used as a reference if needed. Questions will be emailed to your references via FARS automated system. Please advise them to complete the questions immediately to avoid delay in your application process. 


If you would like to apply for pistol purchase permits, you must include the request with your Initial Firearms Identification Card Application OR you may re-apply for permits AFTER your FID card is approved and processed.


Please make sure you have access to a working email to list on your application. All updates regarding your application and/or permits WILL be sent via email. Please check all your email folders and spam prior to calling the Police Department for any updates.
